Inaugurated in the year 1812, the Ceylon Bible Society (CBS) is one of the oldest established societies in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). The CBS is an interdenominational Christian organization involved in the translation, publication and distribution of scripture related material island wide. Since joining the United Bible Societies in 1966 the CBS has become part of the international network of Bible Societies who work towards the goal of making the Bible accessible and affordable to all people.
The Ceylon Bible Society (CBS), one of the oldest existing societies in Sri Lanka according to the records available at the Department of Archives, was inaugurated on 1st August 1812. The CBS is an interdenominational organization involved in translation, publication and distribution of the Scriptures islandwide.It has functioned as a resource centre for Bible distribution from the year 1812. From 1966, it became part of the worldwide scripture distribution network of the United Bible Societies. Council and many new churches, for the purpose of evangelism and mission work.
The Bible Society serves these churches and their partner organizations as a resource, but does not usurp the mission of these Churches. Traditionally the work of the Bible Societies has concentrated on making the Bible accessible and affordable to all people at highly subsidized prices.

Annual Essay Competition |

The Annual Essay Competition conducted by the Ceylon Bible Society has helped to increase the knowledge of the Bible of many young people in our nation. I believe all those who took part have been really blessed.
We request you to encourage young people in your school, congregation and Sunday school to participate in the competition. This Essay competition will be held in English, Sinhala and Tamil Languages. |

The Ceylon Bible Society is the sole owner of the Sinhala Bible Old Version (1938), Sinhala Bible Revised Old Version (1995) and New Revised Sinhala Version – 3rd Edition printed in 2006).
No part of these publications may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system or transmitted in any form including internet or by any means without the prior written permission of the Ceylon Bible Society.
Any person or organization who does any unauthorized act in relation to this may be liable to criminal and / or civil claims for damages, under the Intellectual Property Act No 36 of 2003.
We are compelled to take legal action against those who violate the above instructions to safeguard the authority of the above text and the work and reputation of scholars associated with the translation of the said text.
